ஸ்ரீ பால கதிர்காம ஆலய வரலாறு

வனப்புமிக்க யாழ்ப்பாண நகரம் தன்னகத்தே பல மதங்களை அடக்கியுள்ளது. தமிழ் மன்னன் சங்கிலியன் ஆட்சிசெய்த வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க இவ்வூரில் நல்லூர்க் கந்தனின் அருள்மணம் கமழும் ஆலயத்துக்கு அருகே சங்கிலிய மன்னன் வழிபட்ட சட்டநாதர் ஆலயம் அமைந்துள்ளது. இவ்வாலயத்தின் மேற்குப்புற வீதியில் அமைந்துள்ளதுதான் ஸ்ரீ பால கதிர்காம தேவஸ்தானம்.

இற்றைக்கு நானூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தியாகராஜ ஐயா என்பவர் நேர்த்திக்கடன் காரணமாக காட்டு வழியாக நடைபாதையாக அடியார் கூட்டத்துடன் அன்னக்காவடி சுமந்து கதிர்காமம் சென்றார். அங்கு முருகனை வழிபட்டுத் தனது நேர்த்தி கடனை முடிக்கும் முகமாக அவ்வன்னக்காவடியில் சுமந்து வந்த அன்னத்தினை நெய்வேதனம் செய்வதற்காக திறந்த போது அப்பொழுது அடுப்பிலிருந்து இறக்கிய நெய்வேதனம் போல சூடும் ஆவியும் இருப்பது கண்டு மெய்சிலிர்த்து பக்திப் பரவசம் ஆனர். அதன் பின் தன் ஊர் திரும்பிவராது அவ்வாலயத்திலேயே தங்கிவிட்டார். பல வருடங்கள் கழிந்தன. ஒருநாள் கனவில் முருகன் அருள்வாக்காக “அந்தணரே இங்கு என் சந்நிதானத்தில் வேல் ஒன்றை பூஜையில் வைத்து அதை எடுத்துச் சென்று உமது ஊர்சென்று வழிபடுவீராக”! என்று அருள்வாக்கு கிடைக்கப்பெற்று இறை திருவுளப்படியே அந்த ஞான பொக்கிஷத்தை தன் வீட்டில ஆன்மார்த்த வழிபாடாக வழிபட்டு வந்தார்.

சிறிதுகாலம் கழிந்ததும் அதற்கு ஒரு இடம் ஒதுக்கி ஒரு சிறிய கோவில் அமைத்து அதில் ஞான பொக்கிஷத்தை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து தான் உண்ணும் உணவை நிவேதனமாக்கி வழிபாடு செய்தார். அவர் அந்திய காலத்தின் பின் அவர் வழித்தோன்றல்கள் வழிபட்டு வந்தனர். தாம் வழிபட்ட இவ்வாலயத்தை பொதுமக்களும் வழிபடும் பொருட்டு சிவசிறி குமாரசாமி குருக்கள் செய்த பெரும் முயற்சியினால் சிறிது சிறிதாக இறை கருணை மக்களை ஈர்க்கச் தொடங்கப்பட்டது . 1978ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் கதிர்காம முறைப்படி பூஜைகளும் ஆராதனைகளும் தேவஸ்தானதினர் செய்து வந்தனர் . மக்களின் பக்தி உணர்வினால் கதிர்காமம் போன்றே இவ்வாலயக் கட்டடம் அமைக்கப்பெற்று கதிர்காமத்தில் நடைபெறும் உற்சவ காலத்திலேயே இங்கேயும் உற்சவம் நடைபெறும் வண்ணம் ஆலய விதிமுறைகள் யாவற்றையும் சிவகிரி குமாரகுருக்கள் நெறிபடுத்தி வளிபடுத்தினார்

உற்சவ காலங்களில் கதிர்காம முறைப்படி 11அடி உயரமுள்ள யானை வாகனத்தில் அந்த ஞான பொக்கிஷத்தை ஏற்றி சட்டநாதர் ஆலய வீதியை சுவாமி வலம் வருவார். இவ்வாலயத்தில் மாணிக்கப் பிள்ளையார் சந்நிதானம், விபூதிமலைக் கந்தன் சந்நிதானம், வள்ளிமலை சரவணப்பொய்கையில் முருகன் அவதரித்த காட்சி, கதிரமலைக் கந்தன் சந்நிதானம் இவை அனைத்தும் கதிர்காம சந்நிதானத்தை நினைவூட்டி பக்தர்களின் மனதில் பரவசம் அடையச்செய்கிறது. தீர்த்தத் திருவிழா அன்று காவடி கற்பூரச்சட்டி, கரகம், குடை, கொடி, ஆலவட்டம் முதலிய மங்கல வாத்திய சகிதம் தமிழ்க் கலாசார முறைப்படி தீர்த்தோற்சவம் நடைபெறும். மறுநாள் ஆடிவேல் விழா மூன்று தினங்கள் நடைபெறும். யானை பூரண கும்பம் ஏந்தி முன் செல்ல நவவீரர் புடை சூழ இடும்பன் காவடி ஏந்த மங்கல வாத்தியங்கள் ஒலிக்க எம்பெருமான் பாலமுருகன் ஆடிவேல் ரதத்தில் ஆரோகணித்து யாழ்ப்பாண வீதி எங்கும் வலம்வரும் நிகழ்வு யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இந்து கலாசார மாபெரும் விழாவாக வருடந்தோறும் நடைபெறுகிறது. இவ்வாலயத்தின் திருவிழாக் காலத்தில் சமய அறிவுப் போட்டி, சமூக சேவையாற்றிய முதியோர்களை கௌரவித்தல், சமூகப் பணிகள், தெய்வீக இன்னிசை அரங்கு, கலை கலாசார நிகழ்வுகள் போன்ற சமூக பணிகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன . கதிர்காமம் செல்ல முடியாதவர்கள் தத்துமது நேர்த்திக்கடன்கள் வேண்டுதல்களை இங்கேயே செய்து வருகிறார்கள்.

இதுவே இவ்வாலயத்தின் வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்பாகும்.

THE HISTORY OF SRI BALA KATHIRGAMAM

There are several religions in the beautiful Jaffna city. In this which possesses a historical value,ruled by the tamil kings sngilian by the side of the graceful Nallur kanthan,saddanathar sivan temple is situated,which was worshipped by the king sandilian.The Balakathirkamam is situated on the west road of this temple.

Nearly four hundred years ago,a Brahmin named Thiagaraja iyar went to Kathirgamam on his fort through the jungle with the devotees to fulfil his vow made to the god.He fulfilled his by worshipping the god uruga at kathirkamam.He stayed at Kathirkamam without returning to his village.Many years passes by.One day he got a message which was given out of grace,to keep a “vel” in that temple in “pooja” and to carry it to his village to worship continuously.Accordig to this divine guidance,he worshipped this “wisdom treasure” at his house.

After sometime he provided a place for it and built a small temple and kept the “wisdom treasure” in it,Offered his food to it and worshipped.After him,his descendants continued the worship.They slowly allowed the public to worship and receive the god’s grace.From 1978 they followed the method of “pooja” of kathirkamam temple.Festival is also carried out in this temple during kathirkamam festival season.

During this festival,as at the kathirkamam,the “wisdom treasure” will be mounted on 11ft elephant carriage and taken round the saddanathar temple.

In this Balakathirkamam temple,there are separate places(Sannithanam) for the god pillaiyar,veepoothimalai kanthan,kathiramalai kanthan and the saravanapoikai to depict the incarnation of god muruga.All these together create the emory of kathirkamam in the minds of devotees and they enjoy great joy.

On the water cutting day(theertham) the ceremony will be conducted according to the tamil tradition with kavadi,karaham,umbrella,flag,large circular fan and auspicious musical instruments.From the next day Aadivel festival will be conducted for three days.In the Aadivel procession,the elephant carriage will lead carrying “Porana kumbam” on it.,folloed by the navaveerar carriage and god muruga on the Aadivel chariot.This Aadivel procession go through all the streets of Jaffna city.This Aadivel festival is being conducted in Jaffna every year according to the hindu culture and tradition.Balakathirkamam temple during the festival season conducts competetions in hindu religious knowledge among the school children and honours the elderly people who have done social service.

Balakathirkamam temple also carries out its own social work.The devotees who could, not afford to or unable to go to kathirkamam,fulfill their vows and pray at this balakathirkamam temple.
